Out-of-the-box Scenarios
In close cooperation with companies, SAP and .riess engineering have developed out-of-the-box scenarios that offer you a high degree of standardization. SAP product data management integration to PTC Windchill supports all classic application scenarios and offers standard configurations for master data creation based on the CAD / Dynamic Document and/or Part information you use in PTC Windchill.
Utilizing the Package Scenario and the associated packaging of the data with separate release of the transfer enables the support of a cross-system overall process up to the production-focused solution SAP S/4HANA Production Engineering and Operations.
PDMI not only offers you maximum flexibility for your processes in PTC Windchill, but also enables the use of other solutions in the SAP follow-up process and in logistics.
Part Scenario
In this scenario, SAP product data management integration to PTC Windchill uses your Part information as the leading source. SAP material masters, bills of material, document info records and other objects are generated in SAP based on parts and their structures.
CAD / Dynamic Documents Scenario
In this scenario, SAP product data management integration to PTC Windchill uses your CAD data and its structure. This information from the CAD / Dynamic Documents is used in SAP as a leading source for SAP material masters, bills of material, document info records and other objects.
Package Scenario
In the Package Scenario, unlike in the other two scenarios, the objects are not created or updated directly in SAP. PTC Windchill sends a package containing all data, which can be verified in SAP S/4HANA using BOM simulation and visual input validation in the integration cockpit. The ERP objects are only processed in SAP once the package has been released. This scenario is based on the Part Scenario and at the same time lays the foundation for the connection to SAP S/4HANA Production Engineering and Operations.

System-independent access to all relevant information
Independent of your selected scenario, neutral formats generated by the PTC Windchill Worker can be transferred to SAP and stored in a SAP document info record structure. The connection to the SAP 3D Visual Enterprise Generator is also possible. Together with the accompanying synchronization of metadata from PTC Windchill in SAP characteristics, relevant product information is visible for the right employees in SAP without them leaving their work environment.
PTC Windchill users access relevant SAP information such as material numbers, bills of material (E-BOM / M-BOM) and other logistical information from SAP via a SAP tab in the Part or in the CAD / Dynamic Document.
Bidirectional change process
In all scenarios, SAP product data management integration to PTC Windchill supports a bidirectional change process. This process can start in PTC Windchill as well as in SAP. The change is recorded securely and reliably in SAP using SAP change management and all new documents or updates to documents, material masters or bills of material are documented in SAP using the change number.
